Hello,
I am at my wits end here. I a small novell network (Netware 4.11), which already has 3 other clients attached to the server also running the OS win2k. These 3 PCs can attach to the server fine.
However I ve recently added a new PC also running win2k. Yet the problem is I just cannot attach to the server from the network neighbourhood. Nor can I even see it from the Novell client.
I have checked the hardware from the cable to the hub, and there is a green light flashing on the NIC. So there does not seem anything wrong there. There also seems nothing wrong Device Manager for the NIC adapter.
I ve giving the PC a unqiue name and the same workgroup name as the other PCs.
I ve added the same protocols the other clients use. being.
* Client for Netware
* File and printer sharing for MS Networks
* NetBeui Protocol
* NW Link Net Bios
* NW link IPX/SPX/NetBios
* TCP/IP
--- And still nothing!!!I have a funny feeling that perhaps I need to ping this server, but I ll prob know the answer that nothing will get though. I am even beginning to wonder if this PC has its own IP address.
I have also gone and been through win2k networking troubleshooting section......No clues here, unless you have a Network Admin.
I ve tried (Net View/ network : Nw) on the MSDOS prompt and.....nothing?
All I keep getting when trying to get to the server is "Error the Network path Not found".
Is there something I ve missed out? Obviously there must be?!?!?!
Thanks

Check the line speed of the NIC. Set it to 10mbs and half duplex (by default it is auto). Check the frame type of the client as it should match the frame type running on the Server.

Matt,
Can any of the other PC's see the new unit? What type of cabling are you running: Ethernet or Thinnet? What type(Vendor)hub are you using? You might have connected this PC to an uplink port instead of a node port(just a thought?) I agree with jivesh, you should also check the frame type and packet size for compatibility.
Bryan
