Last Wednesday during normal useage our server abended for no apparent reason. Firstly, Compaq server running Netware for small business 4.2 with about 20 workstations running 3.2 client and win98. My office is in the industrial part of town, so we get power outages and flickers regularly; usually one a week. The power went out that morning for about a half an hour and our UPS kicked in and the server appeared to shut down gracefully. However about 2 hours later the server abended.
{
Abend: SERVER-4.11-4640: Free called with a memory block that has a null resource tag.Running Process: Server 01 Process
The NetwareOS detected a problem with the system while executing a process owned by SERVER.NLM. It may be the source of the problem or there may have been a memory corruption.
}
I restarted and ran DSRepair and VRepair on each volume. The only problems found were a few security equal to links.Since then my backup software (BackupExec) abends the server. It has the same abend error message as above, but is in the process BE_Sess_fb0837a0 which is a process owned by BEORANW.NLM which is the Oracle client for BackupExec.
Would a shortage of memory cause this?
Orig. cache buffers = 48,518
Total cache buffers = 32,988
Or should I replace the existing memory?
Would small disk space cause this?, my DATA volume is 92% full and my SYS volume is 77% full.Does anybody have any ideas?

Are you regularly purging your volumes % seem high on data vol?
I do not think that your memory is causing these problems.
On our server we to experienced what appeared to be memory problems on the surface but which actually turned out to be memory problems on the Network boards ?
I would however as a first port of call do the service pack first.

To get Backup Exec to run on Netware 4.11
you have to load SMDR and configure it.
I type SMDR New and it only loads rhe SMDR module,it is meant to bring up the configuration for SMDR.Whats up ?
Should I try run the newest patch for Novell
4.11?
