Comment:

Ive successfully partitioned my HD. OSX is running lovely on its partition, with Classic 9.2.2. (Installed from OSX install cds, and software restore cds)
Now i really want a bootable os 9 on the other partition. Problem is, i only have a 9.1 update cd. If i hold 'c', it doesnt access it. If i try a simple install, theres the message ' this system cant run this program. see your documentation'.

So my question is theres obviously OS 9.2.2 in my software restore CDs. Is there a way of just installing this for use on my other partition?

To run pure Mac OS 9.2.2 on your other partition,
firstly - do precisely what you decribe above to
your second partition - that is - install Mac OS X -
and then proceed by installing the 4 Restore CDs.

Now you have the same deal on both partitions -
ok?

Right.

In the new partition, go up to the blue Apple -->>
scroll down to "System Preferences..." - and in the
System Preferences, click once on the "Startup
Disk".

Now select the System you wish to startup off
(naturally: Mac OS 9.2.2). Click once on the
"Restart" button - and then again on the drop
down "Save and Restart" button, and your G4 will
boot up into Mac OS 9.2.2.

After restart - you're back to the good ol' OS 9
Classic system - and this now gives you the
opportunity to sabotage the existance of Mac OS
X!

Open your Hard Drive and Trash: System (NOT
System Folder - but the folder named "System"
that has no little blue face on it), Applications
(NOT the folder named: "Applications (Mac OS 9)"
- just the folder called "Applications" - and all
other folders you see in there. You should be left
with only 3 folders:

• Applications (Mac OS 9)
• Documents
• System Folder

That's it! Then empty Trash. This will take a while
as Mac OS X has so many components - thus may
take up to 10 minutes to completely Trash.

After this - you have a pure Mac OS 9.2.2 partition,
and your other partition is running Mac OS X -
though at this point you could reinstall just Mac
OS X on it - and not use the 4 restore CDs at all -
since you now have Mac OS 9.2.2 on a separate
partition!

If you truly wish to absolutely purge Mac OS X
from the new Partition, you will need a piece of
software called Super ResEdit, that will reveal to
you all hidden Mac OS X pieces floating inside
your Mac OS 9.2.2 HD and allow you very easily
to make them "visible" - keep them "visible" and
then Trash them too.

If interested in getting hold of Super ResEdit to
elimate all hidden OS X bits on your Mac OS 9.2.2
partition, just click on my name - and I'll send it to
you in a StuffIt package plus instructions on how
to reveal invisible Mac OS X components.

cheers
