I wonder if anyone can help me. IÕm a real
beginner and my iBook is driving me
crazy! I have a French iBook Combo with
128 RAM and I have installed a French
version of Microsoft Office 2001. I would
ideally like to use Word for documents in
French, Spanish and English with
grammar/spell checks in each of these
languages. I believe this is possible, but I
donÕt know what it is I have to do to
activate the necessary files. I have tried
doing spell checks on documents after
having selected a corresponding
language from the Tools menu bar.
However, each time I try to do a spell
check in English or Spanish an annoying
jumping Mac sign (with a Donald Duck
beak and feet!) in Word Help comes up
saying that Word cannot start the spelling
checker. First it tells me in French that MS
Grammar 2 is not a valid Grammar DLL
(whatever that may mean!), then it goes
on in English telling me to :* Make sure there is enough memory
available
* Make sure the correct spelling styles are
installed
* Make sure the Apple Text Encoding
Converter and Text Encodings are of the
same versionWhen I try clicking on OK this sign doesnÕt
disappear, and it is only through
persistently clicking on OK and
Command Q that I manage to quit Word
and continue working (on a different
software programme of course). Is this
normal? If so how do I make sure that enough
memory is available? What do I have to do to make sure the
correct spelling styles are installed? And how do I make sure the Apple Text
Encoding Converter and Text Encodings
are of the same version?Could anyone help me please?
Thank you in advance.
Mark

I haven't ever seen a good way to make Word (or any M$ program, for that matter) handle multiple languages at once. Last time I used Word, you could only have one spelling dictionary selected at a time. Typical M$, really...

Probably depends what version of Word you have, but in the "Format, Style, Modify, Format" menu you should see "Language", so you can set the language for a style. (I have 'Normal' set to 'English (United Kingdom)' and 'Code' set to 'English (United States)'.) I guess you change it at the document level by setting it for Normal.
