ecently purchased a new Apple PowerBook laptop, which has AirPort Extreme built-in. I want to be able to get a wireless connection for this laptop to the internet via the DSL modem in my house.

Currently, I have a Dell PC that is connected to the internet via a DSL modem, courtesy of the SBC Yahoo DSL service. The PC is not wireless.

I am a novice with regards to wireless connections, so does anyone have any advice or recommendations on how I can wirelessly connect my PowerBook to the internet via my existing DSL connection?

I am not an expert but I have just had the same problem myself.

You need a wireless attachment to connect to your dsl modem. The pc will remain connected by cable to the modem

It is relatively inexpensive, approx $25 and is very easy to set up.

You could replace your modem with a wireless router at a cost of approx $100

You will need to switch on the wireless capability in your powerbook and it should detect the wirelss signal from the modem automatically

Hi,

Buy something like, SMC wireless router with 10/100 ethernet connections.

The advantage is, you can have wired network with the unmovable devices (eg. PC's) and with a USB wireless card attached to PB you can go wireless.

I have the same thing in house, the router gets input from Cabel Modem, and is running a DHCP server, which in turn provides IP addresses to my eMAC and Laptop.

SMC is good, I've good experience with it. All you need to do is make sure you secure the wireless good, or your neighbour gets a free internet connection at your expences.

regards
