I have a new iBook and would like to wipe it and reinstall OS X with a new clean installation.

If I boot from CDand then format my hard drive and restart, will it allow me to boot with the CD again and can I install OS X straight from there?

Do I have to reinstall OS 9 first again? I would love to know all there is to know to this process and what to do because I am a Windows expert migrated to mac as a mac novice!

Help me please!
Steve

No reason to restart after formating the
drive. Just use Drive setup and format the
drive. I would also partition the drive,
depending on the size of the drive.

You don't have to install OS 9, you can
just install OS X, so boot from the OS X
CD.

After you're finished formatting the drive,
go ahead and install the operating
system.

how do i get "drive setup" to use? to format this thing. Its pissing me off because I can't reformat it. I'm a unix programmer and I can't enven format this thing. I have to say installing Linux is easier than trying to reformat & installing OSX!

If you boot from the CD it came with, Disk Utility (OS X) or Drive Setup (OS 9) is easily available on the CD.
