After installing a new hard drive and reassembling the computer (powermac6500/250) it will not power on unless you "softboot" once or twice, the computer is equipped with a converter for the monitor that is for a pc and the screen displays "please check signal cable". can anyone offer some advice to what may have happened and how to fix, thanks

check to see that the adapter for your monitor is set properly. some have dip switches that need to be set. setting to 640 x 480 usually is fine enough. The hard drive needs to be formatted with a mac tool such as Drive Setup to install mac drivers on it, or if it is a drive not supported by Mac, then you need a utility such as FWB hard Disk ToolKit.

One other thing: some scsi disks have a special pin which controlls RPM spin-up, wether the computer says spin up or wether it waits for a signal from an OS. make sure you read disk manual see if that is so, (ibm, seagate etc.)
