Subject: Will iPod nano work on iBook G3?OS: 10.2.8CPU/Ram: G3 / 30GB |
Comment: I'd like to get my wife an iPod nano for Christmas; she has an older iBook G3 running Mac OSX 10.2.8 and has USB 1.1 ports. The specs for the nano require Mac OS X 10.3.4 and USB 2.0. My question is, will the nano at least work with her iBook, just not at top speeds? Or will I have problems and most likely need to return the nano? Thanks for your help.

Reply: (edit)She at least needs to update her OS X to 10.3.4 As far as the USB 2.0 thing goes, I think it is backwards compatible because I have not run into one thing that requires USB 2 only. Take a chance.. you could always return it if it doesn't work out. Good luck.

Reply: (edit)Thanks for the comments Mike. I've been researching the USB issue and came to a similar conclusion. I've also read that the nano requires system 10.3.4 in order to take advantage of Macs that have USB 2.0. So using that logic, if she's not going to be using USB 2.0, she shouldn't need to upgrade her OS -- unless of course 10.3.4 has another iPod feature that 10.2.8 doesn't. Has anyone else tried to do this?

Reply: (edit)I have an ibook G3 with 10.2.8 and I share the same dilema. I want a nano, but I dont want to upgrade my os to tiger because it has two many silly features. I might take my ibook in to the store and test if it works. chris
