OS: mac 10.2.8
CPU/Ram: 900/256
Product: ibook
Comment:

Hi I'm totally unfamiliar with ibook. I bought this ibook with no CD's and I want to start over with a totally fresh install. There is an administrator account on as well as my account. What OS discs can I consider? I've been looking on e-bay.
Or am I limited to what I already have installed?
I just can't install stuff like my USB wireless and frostwire, as well as optional browsers, etc.
Thanks

You can use any Mac OS up to and including the latest
version, 10.5 Leopard. I'd limit my choices to 10.3 or higher.
Before ordering any system though, check and make sure
your iBook has a DVD capable drive or you'll need to do a
little extra searching to find the OS on CD, and I'm not sure
you can get 10.5 on CD.

Thankyou golpher,
My optical drive is from what I can see a CDR/DVD combo.
So If I get the new Install CD or DVD I will be able to reformat and re-install without worrying about the previous administrator log-in password?
Thanks

Yep.

Once you get past the language screen, under the Utilities
menu in the menu bar select Disc Utilities. Once it is open
select the internal drive on the right side and then reformat
the drive HFS+. Once that is done quit Disc Utilities and
continue with installation process.

I have a mac mini ppc running 10.4.11 and classic.

I have an iBook (Tangerine) running 9.2.2.

I have both the original boot disks for the mini and a
downloaded version of OS X on the mini's desktop (a .dmg file that an OS<10 can't use). The Tangerine has a CD
drive but not DVD. The system profiler says it's working
on a G3 processor and 300MHz.

How can I get OS X onto the Tangerine? I know, once it's
there, I will likely need some memory and processor
upgrades - suggestion on what to add and even where
best to get them, would be much appreciated - but first I
need to get the OS right.

Haaaaaalp!

Golfer is only correct if the 900MHz iBook is a G4 one. There are G3's of that flavour, and to the best of my knowledge Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard requires a G4 processor, 867MHz or better.

I think Tiger is your best bet.

Medion MIM 2080
Toshiba T2130CT
Macintosh Performa 450

All working wonderfully.
