Hi there,
my problem is as follows: my friend has an XP machine that connects to the Internet over wireless LAN. The Mac (OS 9) is connected with a crossover Ethernet cable to the XP machine and is supposed to connect to the internet as well. XP has a fixed IP-address, say 192.168.1.33. The router is given the address 192.168.1.250. The Mac is given a fixed IP as 192.168.1.32 and as router and DNS 192.168.1.33 in the TCP/IP control panel.
Now the XP machine connects to the internet as long as the mac is off. As soon as the mac is switched on, the internet connection on XP is gone. Right away after the start, although control panels or extension are not loaded yet! I mean right after just starting the mac. What am I doing wrong? How can both connect to the internet (except over Airport, which would cost him again) I also tried changing the router and DNS IPs in the control panel to that of the router, but it still didn’t work. Thanks for your help.
