Hi,

I have an Apple Laser writer 8500 printer on the same network as two imacs. I also have four win2000 PCs that are networked (sharing the same network hub as the macs and the printer). I'm having trouble setting up the printer so that the PC's can use it. The imacs have no trouble printing on the laser writer but the PC's can't even detect the imacs or the printer on the network. I have very basic knowledge Apple macs but strong background in PC networking. Can someone please give me some instructions on how to set up the printer so that the PCs can use it.

Thanks

Ali

Well, I believe there's an application (it's name escapes me..darn it!) for PC's that allows you to network to Mac's, use Mac printers, etc.
Look around, and see..
I'm sorry I can't be of more assistance!

I believe the software DK is thinking of is
something like "love my Mac", "love my
PC", or "Dave" I've seen it in stores like
CompUSA and it says it'll let Macs and
Windows PCs network together and use
the same resources (ie-printers, etc.)

Let me know if you find it and make it
work. I may need it myself.

I also have an Apple Personal LaserWriter NT and am attempting to connect it to my Win98.
See below for a product which claims to allow connections between apple printers and pcs.

I do not have this myself so don't know more than the add says. I have connected my com2 serial port to the 25 pin port on the printer. So far no luck printing, but no error messages either.

DAVE from thursby is a software that is loaded on the mac so that it can see and
be seen on a PC network. On the mac side
the PC's look just like a mac network and
on the PC side the mac's look like a windows
network. You can share printers and files.
Just don't forget the file ext. such as .jpg.
You can get a free trial at thursby.com

Hi, I also have a Personal LaserWriter NT and it works in Win XP only if you connect it to Comm port 1 for some reason. Even though you can set different ports that the printer can read from I found that it only works from the first one. Not much of a suggestion, sorry!

Apple Servers used to come with a utility called COPSTALK. Copstalk was bought by Thursby Systems, tweeked a bit and is now sold as TTStalk or TSTalk. It works well.
Copstalk required the PC to log onto a Mac server in order to use an Apple compatible printer. Using Mac printers has definate advantages: You don't need to fiddle with print servers, you can move your printers around freely, and there is no need to invest more money in a PC centric printer.

In reply to Response 4, if the cable does work, i.e. provide physical connectivity, what about software compatibility? What printer drivers for the PC are required? I'm looking for Windows 95 compatibility for Personal LaserWriter NTR.

Also in Response 6, does Windows XP natively support Apple laser printers?

I have about four apple laser writer 16/600 I am trying to set up on a win 2000 print server. After I put in the IP it acts like it can't resolve the ip and asks me to select the proper interface. I select Apple network printer, but no luck. Any ideas?

Hello,

I have an Apple Laserwrite II from 1994 and I want to use it with my Win XP on a PC.
I have installed the driver for "Apple Laserwrite II NT v47.0" that comes with XP.

I have tried to connect the printer with LPT-cable to my computers LPT1-port and as well to COM1-port. It does not work.

Do I have to change the small switches at the back of my printer? next to the power-button. How should they be configured?

Please email me the solution if you know one..

Andreas (Sweden)

Try this one out:

http://www.connectworld.net/cgi-bin/iec/fullpic?PT3hKkyW;K1000;2

"PC requirements
The PC needs to be a 286 or greater processor, and needs to have a spare serial (COM) port, this won't work on the Parallel port."
