USB-ports down in IBook

Both my USB-ports fall down while I'm working. After a while they both worked again (without any action from me). Now they went down again but when I unplug and replug the mouse, it sometimes works again. The USB-hub plugged in #2 port doesn't. Any idea if this should be a HW or a SW problem and how to solve it? Thanks

Run your Software Update control panel until it can't find any new updates to download.
If that doesn't fix it, let us know.

I've automatic Software Update selected, so I would know if there where updates. Anyhow I cannot update right now as I've an USB/ADSL-modem and as my USB-ports do not work... I've also a G3 Blue&White with exactly the same configuration which keeps on working perfect. Conclusion : I do not think Software Update is the solution. Thanks for the hint anyway. Willy

Do you have the latest firmware updates installed? I've found that running Software Update manually is a much better solution than allowing it to do its thing automatically, at least in OS 9. (The OS X version is one of OS X's best features.)
