Reply: (edit)I have the new G4 iBook. And one of the the dual G5 towers. Both have internal DVD burners. I use a Lacie DVD external on both of them and am able to use both burners at the same time. I have 1.256 gig of memory on the iBook and 2 gig on the G5. Even so I was pleasantly surprised. Hope this helps

Reply: (edit)I use a Plextor Dual Layer externa (PX-716A) It has both USB and Firewire, so you can choose, it even comes with both cables. Right now i'm using Firewire b/c my USB ports are eaten up. I've used this drive with windows, osx, and linux and it works fine through firewire and USB on both. It set me back about $200, but is the best burner I've ever used.
