I hooked up a usb hub to the g4 tower and the device is not detected. I have a power light but that is it none of the other devices are working.

I assume you have a powered hub & have rebooted since installing the hub. (reboot should not be necessary, but in cases of wierd outcomes it can't hurt). All I can suggest is to unplug all usb lines and power line to the hub, replug it all in. Reboot. If no fix then try plugging the hub into a different usb port on the G4. If still no fix sounds like a faulty hub. USB hubs are simple, just plug-em-in-and-they-work devices.

And if it's a powered hub, make sure it's actually plugged into the wall.
See if Apple System Profiler recognises its presence as well.
