I've installed a new hard drive in my iMac
and now I can't seem to move files
between my USB hard drive and the
internal hard drive. I can access the USB files and it checks out ok with Disk First Aid.
Any ideas?

The internal is a Maxtor 40GB, the USB is
a LaCie 20GB.
As I did some more investigation, it's only
some files and folders that I can't move,
so I suspect they are corrupted
somehow. Still don't know why I can't run
TechTools, which might fix the problem.

TechTool doesn't see the drive, or won't repair it?

Is there anything on the drive right now that you can't afford to lose? If so, copy it to the internal and then reformat the external; if not, just reformat the external and see if that helps any. If the files you need are the ones that won't copy, well, yeah, that's what we're working on :)

TechTool sees it fine but won't repair it - it hangs up at volume structures and doesn't get to file structures.
Some files will copy over to the internal, others won't. I think I can still pull those over my LAN to the PC (strange). That may be the solution - to pull the files to the PC then back to the Mac. Weird but true.

If you do that, make sure the PC doesn't strip out the resource forks.

What version of TechTool?
