This is driving me nuts because i cant figure out why it's so, but I recently upgraded an 8.6 install to 9.22 on a separate drive ( upgraded a copy, not the original, of my system folder) so I could keep my 8.6 install..and I'm glad I kept it now, too. OS 9,2 won't mount any USB drives, even though it's got the same (except where appropriately upgraded by the install) USB drivers that my OS8.6 install has, and it mounts all my USB drives just fine.. Are there some other settings new to OS9 that need to be tweaked in order to get it to do so? I know that when I did the upgrade it reset some settings to the defaults, rather than transfer the ones from 8.6.. However, some I've lost for good..in 8.6 my RamDisk doesn't get deleted from a restart, just a shutdown..although I've got the same 'persistent ram diak' prefs file in my OS9 prefs folder, it doesn't seem to do anything..I still get the "Restarting or shutdown will delete your Ramdisk, are you sure?" message, which I only get for shutdown, not restart in 8.6..iI did try deleting the 'persistent ramdisk' pref to see if it would make a new one, but no difference..The memory control panel only lists the option of saving the disk between boots, but part of the reason I've got my cache on a ramdisk is for security reasons...I want it deleted at shutdown, but not restarts.. Also I don't seem to be able to change any of the entries on my Office 98 Menu (the one that sits up on the finder menu bar..). I have had to reboot into OS 8.6 to do any of these things.. I don't particularly mind that in and of itself (although it's a bit inconvenient, especially if I don't want to delete my cache just right yet..eg. i'm not planning to shut down)..but the way that 9.22 selects a startup folder just adds to the frustration, as unlike 8.6, where it just picks a different startup disk without actually de-activating the previous system folder, in OS 9.22 it de-blesses the 9x system folder instead..so when I want to boot back into 9 from 8.6 I can't select the 9x disk, as it's still selected,(the system folder's just de-blessed) but have to shut down and restart in order to get back into 9.22, otherwise i just end up back in 8.6!.. Are these commn complaints? I don't really know..I was frankly, quite happy with 8.6 , but I've several apps (such as disk burner) that absolutely required 9x..which is why I upgraded... Sorry if this has turned out somewhat wordy, but if you've managed to wade thru it, have any ideas? Thanx muchly!!
