Easy. An OS X install DVD.

Do you have a PowerPC or Intel Mac?

This would be the determining factor of how far you can go.

With PowerPC the highest you can go is Mac OS X Leopard 10.5, with an Intel chip you can go to Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and beyond. Older PowerPC Macs are faster on <10.4, Newer Macs >10.4.

I hope this helped.
