Hi ...
I've just purchased Office Mac 2008 to install on my eMac. I am finding, however, that my current OS X 10.3.9 needs to be upgraded to 10.4.9 for installation to proceed. I am aware that the eMac is not mentioned a lot, so haven't been able to find a supplier that specifically states that the 'normal' 10.4.9 upgrade Sw will be compatible with an eMac. Can anyone tell me if it is? The reason I'm asking this (perhaps basic question) is because I previously got replacement OS X installation disks, only to find that the eMac I have required a different updated set with the proper video driver to suit the model of eMac I have. Hence the slight lack of confidence that the eMac is to be treated just like other Mac systems all the time. Hope you get my drift!
Anyway, if it turns out that my eMac can take the typical 10.4.9 upgrade, any suggestions as to a supplier??
Cheers ... natsys

eMacs can be upgraded all the way up to Leopard. It'll be best with 10.3 or lower. PowerPCs do not run as well with 10.4+. I know because I've had multiple PPC Macs and they all underperformed with the newer OSes. Intel Macs smoke all PPC Macs. It's night and day.
This is a great site to compare Mac performance.

Thanks for this. Knowing that the system will accept OSs up to Leopard is interesting. At the end of the day this system will be used only for email, browsing and word processing, so it won't be stretched. I'm more used to the WinPC world, so this is helpful info. for me. Cheers.
