Is OS-X really worth it? I received an iPod Mini as a gift, but it will NOT run on OS-9 (I've tried everything). Many applications have gone out of date. Nobody supports OS-9 anymore. I added expensive memory to my G3 Yosemite, then a new hard drive. After much screaming and wailing, I find out I have a "revision 1" board which won't run the drive properly, so I have to shell out $60 for a PCI controller card. (If I'd bought the machine 6 months later back when I bought it, it wouldn't have this junk old "revision 1" board in it). Finally I still have to buy OS-X. God knows what else is going to go wrong. IS IT REALLY WORTH IT? I THINK I'M IN THE MONEY PIT AGAIN! Why is Apple so happy to sell me an iPod, but not support it in OS-9? Isn't OS-X basically an overlay of OS-9 anyway? If Apple doesn't support OS-9, WHY, TO THIS VERY DAY, DOES APPLE STILL CHARGE TO DOWNLOAD THE OS-9 INSTALLER? I'm very seriously thinking it's time to get a PC-based machine (gasp). At least the controller card is only $20 there. Make a better computer and better people will use it. Make a computer idiot friendly and only idiots will use it.

X is worth it You can run upto 10.3 but for your machine I would only look for OS X 10.2---try http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=80258&item=5755821288&rd=1 its only $40 It will run great on the B&W G3 and by the way Dont complain about the prices it could be worse you could still be using a powerPC like a lot of people who CAN NOT upgrade to OS X They WILL have to buy a new machine all you have to buy is the software. enough said

DO NOT buy 10.2! I'd HIGHLY reccomend buying 10.3 JUST for the speed boost (and on a G3, you'll need it - trust me). If I were you, I'd wait till version 10.4 which comes out in April. Save your money until then! -MikeG
