Someone transferred a lot of MAC files to me in an archived format. I expanded them using Aladdin Expander (which I think un-encodes them also). Some of them show up in their appropriate program icons (HTML pages and some of the graphics). BUT most of the thousands of files are in the default (unknown file association) windows icons - and I have no way of knowing what programs each file was made in.
Is there some way to tell what type of application each of these files was made with / what type of file association I should give it?
For that matter - is there some way to do that quickly?!
Thanks for any help.

You might be able to find a MAC emulator
for the PC if you are lucky - MAC files
generally don't read on PC at all.

As the original poster is well aware of, most
"mac" files read well on Windows if there is an
app to read them and win knows what they are.
Aladdin removs mac specifics and ads the proper
extension. That is if the file type is known to it.
Check the Expander settings and se if you can give
it more info on mac file types and their pc names.
This might be a bit tricky if the mac file types are
not in some list or such within the expander
preferences, since it otherwise involves knowing
the four charachter file type code used for macs
(that is not visible). Also an emulator is of no use
withóut the apps to read the files)
