Although i've got both 9.22 and 10.1 on my mac i rarely use x (can't get into it..too much like unix and windows, and slooow on a B&W G3)..
So, i've forgotten my log-in password..although i'll probably get it eventually, in case i don't, is there any kind of key combination that will give me the startup disk dialog so i can boot back into OS9 (i've got a non-apple cdrom so can't easily boot from CD without plugging in an external drive).
Does OSX have the startup disk dialog on boot? I simply can't remember, it's been some time...
Secondly, the only reason i want to boot OSX anyways is I have about half of my DMG archives don't open in OS9, and I'm assuming that DiskCopy 6.4 doesn't open all DMG's but only some..Is this other peoples experience, and is 10.1 adequate for most or all DMGs , or is it still too early a version of X?
I'm guessing either there was a format change in how DMG's are compressed, or archives made in later versions of OSX won't open in earlier versions of X..
I'd appreciate any light in either of these subject.
Thanx..

Obviously, i think i believe you think i said what you want to believe, but i think you didn't believe what i think i really said...

if you hold down the C key with no CD in the drive, it
should default to OS 9.

If you have your install disk, startup and look in the FILE
menu for RESET PASSWORD

the rest is easy

I would upgrade to 10.2 at least - more stable

Sure..i don't doubt 10.2 is better (is it faster?)..i only could afford a 10.1 disk..i live on an island so almost everything mac is hard to find locally.
I thought the 'C' key disabled *all* the harddrive system folders..as i mentioned previously, my internal cdrom drive is not bootable so i got a blank screen last time i used the 'C'.
Guess i'm going to have to hook up the SCSI CDROM anyways for the OSX password thing..thanx for the tip.
Anyone know about the DMG thing i mentioned?
