Hi,
I just discovered that my 6 your old managed to jam TWO disks into the CDROM on my IMAC. Naturally, when I try to eject them, I hear the motor whirring but nothing comes out. They did come out just enough for me to verify that there are indeed two disks in the drive, but in my efforts to extract them they slid back inside. This machine was purchased in 2000, and has the slot CDROM, not the pop out tray. Naturally, the warranty was up last May, so I am on my own. Is there anyway to get these out, or am I stuck with paying somebody to replace the CDROM? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks much,
Eric

Im not sure about the iMac but usually a CD Rom has
a hole in the front about the size of a paperclip.Insert a straightened paperclip and it should eject
the CDs. You do not need to have the computer
turned on for this.

Eric,
you DO need to have the iMac turned "on" to
attempt the paperclip trick.Look to very far right of the CD slot - through the
grey felt, you will see a tiny hole (like a tear duct). With the iMac "on", unravel a paper clip and
carefully insert its end straight into this tiny holy
until you feel it "bump" against what feels like a
tiny concavity (it's an internal button) - then push
at this button gently and your CDs should slide
out a little - though I'd advice having a small pair
of pliers in your left hand ready to grab them when
they emerge. The point they emerge, remove the
paperclip end.If this method fails, do a full shut-down on your
iMac.Then start her up and immediately hold down
your mouse and keep it held down. Within 20
seconds the CDs should be pushed out to the lip.
"Mouse Down" on startup is the second way to
force eject. (Again - pliers at the ready).Try these two methods - if they fail - return for
more information.cheers

Well, I tried the paper-clip method with the IMAC turned on, but while I can hear the drive attempting to eject the disks, they are not coming out - not even a little bit. Any ideas on what I should do next? Thanks for all your help.
Eric

Eric,
State full details on make and model of your iMac
and we'll see if we can obtain some visual aides
in order to pull those little suckers out.cheers
