I just got the new imac, and im trying to connect it to my HP PC via crossover cable. but for some weird reason, even when there is no cable connected, i can ping 192.168.0.2 (the HP) and get it to read "64 bytes received from blah blah" (the imac is 192.168.0.1) and even when the imac isnt assigned to be 192.168.0.1, it can still ping it. my friends believe that its something messed up with my ISP, that it is screwing it up. whenever i try to ping anything when im not online, it says "no route to host" even when im pinging the computer's own IP. any idea whats going on? i tried the 10.0.0.1 IP naming, and still no luck. when i tried that, if im online it just doesnt say anything when i try pinging itself. when im offline, it says "no route to host" as of right now the pc is setup as 10.0.0.2, and it can ping itself with no problem. this imac did work when i went to a friends house and had it set on a DHCP...but he said i couldnt do that here and im not really sure what it is. what can i do? thanks for the help, -Nate
