I am switching from Windows to Mac and
in the process I'm hoping to transfer the
e-mail messages from Outlook Express
5 in Windows to Outlook Express on my
Mac. I've heard this cannot be done.Could someone clarify this for me? I
would like to have all my old e-mails
easily accessible through some e-mail
program, even if it is not OE. I'm not too
familiar with the Mail program on OS X. If
you have any tips about the best e-mail
program for the Mac where this can be
done, I'd appreciate hearing about it.
Thanks.

Rob,
I've had a similar requirement and drew a blank searching for software that would do this automatically, so I've had to do it the hard way.
1. In OE on Windows, I'd save each message to a Mail file, using File:SaveAs:Mail(*.eml).
2. Pass them across the network to a Mac, or use a floppy (May the force be with you).
3. In OE on Mac, open each message and use Move to Folder.
From what I know, the Mac version of OE keeps ALL messages from ALL folders in one giant database file. The Windows version allocates a separate .dbx database file for each folder.
As to OS X, sorry can't help you there. I'm still on 9.x

It can be done.
we have both a PC and a Mac hooked onto the same phone line, and both use outlook express. Although we can't use the internet at the same time, all emails sent to our address come in on both computers. So if you want to transfer the emails, just send all the mail you want to keep to your email address and they will come in on the other machine.
I also use netscape communicator at times but find outlook express better

The enormous disadvantage to the idea that "mimi" presents is that you lose the "from" information on every single message.
Here's another idea...what if you burn the stuff to CD on the PC and then just try opening it up (from inside Mail, OE, or Eudora) on the Mac? Might work, and certainly will be the easiest way if it does...
