There is a thin vertical line that runs down my screen. It looks like it is made up of tiny red dots running down the screen. I am worried it will get worse. Anyone know what is wrong and if there is anything I can do to fix it?

We need to know more about your system first. Which iMac is it? G3, G4, G5 or an Intel model? If you're lucky there might be a firmware update to solve your problem, but it definitely sounds like a hardware problem, which means it needs to be sent somewhere for repair.
