teTeX - Texshop, keybord shortcuts!

Hi !
I am in dire trouble after switching from LaTeX on a PC to teTeX on my new ibook G4. I am using texshop, and in that connection i am lacking the "latex command giving" backslash on my keybord, amongst others, thus crippling latex completely.
I know this must be a ultra basic question, but here goes: How do I change the shortcut to specified symbols from the assigned unicode to my own configuration ??
