Comment: I heard that system 7.5 is free to download. After searching the apple archives and ftp server I was unable to find a working version of anything except the 7.5 network access disk. On the Ftp I found 7.5.3 but after DL and transfering to my mac, I couldn't use the files I was wondering if anyone new where I could download System 7.5 or higher for my mac. Please note that I will be downloading these files on a pc then copying to a mac 1.4MB disk

Reply: (edit)By the way, I do have stuffit expander but it cannot expand the files because i don't have "dropstuff" to expand segmented files

Reply: (edit)There are enough posts on this forum about "DL to PC then transfer to Mac" to solve your problems. You can find info on web as well. DIG for it. As far as SEGMENTED files: You -probably- don't have any. Apple's older system installs usually come in '.img' files that are the file size of a floppy, because you use the img's to make floppies to do the install. DiskCopy will make the floppies from img. Stuffit Expander will expand any img's that were compressed for transfer from the web or ftp. FYI: DROPSTUFF......'STUFF's' files, it won't expand them (Drop files onto icon, they get stuffed).

Reply: (edit)That was the error I get. "Files could have been expanded if you had dropstuff" And the other posts didn't help at all. They just suggested what I had already tried

Reply: (edit)Yep. that was the first page I went to. I got it working. Not completely sure what I did though. Not much experience on macs. In general I prefer the faster and more supported PC's

Reply: (edit)steven - that is a very biased statement. i could go on and on about how macs are faster and more supported, but you've probably heard most of the "arguments" before. keep in mind, however, that a 2.0GHz "fast" PC is just as fast if not slower than a 1.0 GHz Mac. About the System 7.5, i have never seen that. do you have like a stripped down version of stuffit or something?
