Hi, I just got my new iBook G4 and have a couple of questions. First of all, virus protection - on WinXP I used an antivirus (AVG) and a spyware blocker - should I do this for the mac too? 2) Right clicking - I've been able to do it on pictures and in hotmail, but not on links, which is a pain because I like choosing between opening in new windows and tabs (I'm using firefox), is there a way to change that? 3)Transferring files from windows - I managed to get my itunes library on here ok, but it won't add these other mp3s that I'd put on another DVD, how come? I also copied the "my pictures" folder but I can't open any of the files, jpegs, gifs, tiffs kodak photos etc. :( I have over 1gb of pics on there - are they all windows-only encoded or something? Can I do anything about it? Finally, I'm having slightly similar trouble with video files - avis, mpgs and mpegs. I've got VLC which will play some of the avi clips but with others nothing happens, and quicktime won't play any of them :( any suggestions?

Thanks very much for reading all of that, and more thanks in advance for any help :)

Hi Crispin,

1. You do not need any antivirus software fo the Mac

2. For right clicking, navigate to the link, and either press
ctrl + click, or attach a two button mouse - either will sort
out the problem for you.

3. Not sure why you cannot play your other MP3's via
iTunes. Just transfer them to my music folder in Finder
and then double-click to play them. Unless you have
created these MP3s in a certain software program (such as
nero etc) then they should play no problem.

4. Mac OSX will read any Jpeg etc,via iPhot or another
software such as Paint shop pro - it sounds as though you
created these via the kodak software, so they may not be
read on the Mac. What you need to do is open them on
the PC via windows picture and fax viewer/or PSPro,
choose save as, and just save as standard JPeg or
whatever, without any software extension.

5. VLC will play any avi etc, but you need to set it to be
the default of all the video files you want to play. to do
this, right click on your video file you wish to play, (say an
avi) click get info, and then choose VLC as default player
and then choose it for all avi file types.

When you get a different video file type, (such as an
mpeg) do the same again, right lick on the mpeg etc....

Hope this helps....

Regards,
Kyomii
