Over the weekend, one of our Macs here
mysteriously stopped being able to print.
Nothing happened that I know of, so I
can't really pinpoint any cause. The other
two Macs we have can print fine, and all
the PCs print normally as well: it's just the
one Mac that's having problems. Both
printers we're trying to get it to print to are
network printers, not hooked directly up to
the computer. Here's what we know:- Mac is running OS9.2. The printer is a
Phaser 7700. Everything was working fine
before the weekend, but when we came
back this one Mac couldn't get a print job
through successfully.- It's not a problem with the printer itself
(eg paper, cables, restart, etc.) because
all the other computers can get to it and
print without problems.- The problematic Mac's chooser looks
normal: all the normal selections and
printers show up there, AppleTalk is
active, and Internet, email, and local
network are all working fine.- We can select the printer(s) from the
chooser, set them up both manually and
automatically (which means it can see
them). No problems here.- The problem happens when we try to
actually print, from any application. The
print queue will go through and show up
in the Printer window, but then it just sits
there. It's not paused or stopped, it just
doesn't do anything but sit there in the
queue. I'm pretty sure other computers
sending stuff through to printed still go
through while the Mac's job is in there but
not doing anything.- I've tried all the typical stuff like making
sure the computer can get to the network
and Internet (yes), restarting several
times (yes), making sure the printer
shows up in the chooser (yes), etc. This is a big problem, as the Mac having
the problem is a design station and
needs to be able to print. Anyone have
any ideas what's going on?Thanks,
m19

I have run into a similar problem from time to time.
Remove the printer description file and also any
of the Phaser extensions that you may have
loaded.
Reboot the machine.
Reinstall the description files and your
extensions.
Restart the machine.
Go to the chooser and create your phaser printer.Should work.
If that does not work try loading the adobe PS
driver for the printer and use it.
