Subject: stupid question about mac os x
OS: Mac OS X
CPU/Ram: G4
Comment:

I know that Mac OS X is based on Unix. And I thought that you could run Unix on any computer with a C compiler. Does that mean I could run Mac OS X on a PC. I know I probably couldnt but I want to find out anyway.

You can run OS X's open source *BSD base, Darwin,
on an x86 machine. OS X, on the other hand, will
only run on a Mac. (Actually, I think some people
have Mac-on-Linuxed another PPC machine, but
that's another story.)

What story is that? Seriously, I'm not trying to be cheeky, I want to know about it.
If you're talking about Mac-on-Linux, it doesn't run on x86 hardware.

(I found this statement interesting from the Mac-on-Linux FAQ:
"[T]he EULA of MacOS prohibits its usage on non-Apple hardware." What is this? That would mean using something like BasiliskII violates the EULA - where can I read the EULA?)

It's a click-thru whenever you install the OS.

Yes, I know Mac-On-Linux doesn't run on a x86
machine. But, Apple isn't the only company that
uses PowerPC chips, and Mac-On-Linux will run on a
fast enough PPC. I dug up the Slashdot article I read
a while ago about the issues.

Granted, it takes 1 or 2 seconds for a mouse click to
respond. I use a Mac because it lets me get things
done, not because I feel like waiting for hours for a
response. If the other was the case, I'd have a WinME
box with 16MB of RAM.

Call Apple. I'm sure they'd be happy to provide you with a copy.
