Subject: Startup Problems! HELP!OS: Mac OS X 10.1 PumaCPU/Ram: 333Mhz/192MB |
Comment: Hello. I've gotten a copy of Mac OS 9.1 which is a DMG file. I extracted that and copied the files to a folder in my HD. I wanted to start up in OS9 so I chose that System Folder in the Startup Disk Prefs. In OSX. I restarted and I keep on getting an error that I cannot copy the contents to the Hard Drive to boot and it gives me a button to restart. How do I revert the startup disk settings and get back to booting OSX. I have no actual media though (that was my 1st problem) Could I take the CMOS Battery out to reset the Info stored there? Or it the info on the HD? I have the iMac G3 333Mhz, 192MB RAM, 6.4GB HD, OSX 10.1 Puma... Thanks
Nick

Reply: (edit)Restart and hold down the "option" key. This will will bring up a visual list of your available system folders. Select the button for Mac OS X and press the forward arrow button to boot into that system.

Reply: (edit)The option key will only bring up the symbol to select to boot from the HD, it will not allow you to select from OS 9 or OSX. This must be none in the control panel called "startup disk" which writes a parameter telling it to boot from the selected folder. I dont remember the key commands on the top of my head, and I dont know if they would even apply to that machine, but another option is just to boot off the CD and reselect the OS X folder.
