Good Afternoon/Morning etc etc......I feel lucky to have
come across this forum....it has been by far the most
helpful out there.....my main question has to do with hard
drive and memory upgrade.......i have done my (half-
arsed) homework and still need some help.....This is what
i have in mind.....I have a 250 GB Maxtor ATA that I still
have brand new from my PC days....never took out of
box......I want to upgrade my 60 GB to that......and I also
want to purchase a 1GB memory kit (factory slot & user
slot)......my two main concerns are......1. Will my Mac fully
read the 250 GB partion and 2. Will I have any problems
running 1 GB memory on a 800 MHz CPU..........well
experst and professionals......PLEASE HELP A FELLOW
BROTHER IN NEED........GREATLY APPRECIATED......

THANKS

Per my experience I believe your computer as is will not
be able to read the entire 250GB hard drive without an
additional controller card. For some reason the 133MHz
bus can only handle hard drives up to about the 130GB
range. Anything above that will be read at half the size.
You can purchase a $99 ATA133 controller card from
http://www.sonnettech.com or place the drive in an
external hard drive enclosure. Those enclosures sell at
my store for around $50-60.

As for RAM, the most you can fit in each slot is a 512 chip.
There are three slots so you can get a max of 1.5 GB of
RAM in there but I'm not aware of any way for it to read a
single 1GB stick. If you do, make sure it is PC133 SDRAM
built for a Mac computer. I'm not sure what happens if
you place PC RAM in though. It might or might not work.

Good luck!
