Is there a way to disable the light located on the latch
release? It glows from bright to dark when my powerbook g4
is asleep, draining the battery and illuminating my hotel
room as I sleep.

It shouldn't drain the batter that much - you should lose
at most 5 per cent. (or 10 per cent abosute maximum)

As for it illuminating the hotel room, are you sure? The
light is very small, and does not illuminate my very small
(10ft x6ft ) bedroom.

Easy solution to that is to put a beer mat or similar infront
of the light.

The all-round solution to save your battery and stop the
light is to shut down the system - it won't do it any harm.
