Subject: Sharing broadband conection OSX-OS9
OS: 10.2.8
CPU/Ram: 800Mhz / 512mb
Model/Manufacturer: iMac PowerPC G4
Comment:
Hello, I'm trying to share a broadband connection that works in my OSX iMac with an older iMac Indigo, running OS Z1-9.0.4, 512mb. How do I do this? I currently have an ethernet connection running between the two.

Any help appreciated. I am thinking I might have to buy a router but dont want to waste money if it can't be done. Ideally I would just like to share the connection as a LAN between then two so that they can both use broadband at the same time. (I have one broadband line which permits sharing by more than one PC/Mac)

Many thanks,
James

How are you getting the broadband connection to the
iMac if the iMac is connected to the Indigo thru the
ethernet port? Just curious.

You can share the internet connection the iMac has using
the Sharing preference pane in System Preferences. You
can sharing the incoming connection out thru a different
port. That is if the incoming connection is thru ethernet
you can share that connection thru the Airport card or
Firewire cable. You can not share a connection thru the
same port that is coming in on however.

Most ISP's allow you to share a connection between
machines on a home LAN, however most only allow one
"front" machine or host. A router acts as the main
connection and gateway for sharing the connection.
