setting up file transfer

im trying to set up a link from my brother powerbook to my power mac, we both hav OSX 10.4. i belive it can be done by going to the go menu in finder and selecting connect to server.
I a not sure what numbers i need to type in here. I belive it is the ISP IP address, but do i also have to put my IP addreess and router IP.
the purpse of this is to set up a simle file transfer of small files.
any help would be apprecaited, thanx in advance. (sorry for any spelling mistakes) moog
