OS: not known - old MAC
CPU/Ram: don't know

Computer works properly. It runs QuarkXpress version 4. Similar relevant software is Adobe Photoshop.
A top quality scanner is installed
Problem
Scanning a transparency (slide of a painting) onto a MAC in CMYK mode. The colour of the slide of the painting is true to the painting. But the scan is too dark – greyish looking. There is a problem with the reds. Tried using functions “Too dark”, “Normal”, “Too light”. Using these functions has too dramatic an effect on the scanned image. Why is the colour on slide not the same as the scanned colour? Is there anything that can be done at the scanning stage? I would rather not use photoshop

I'm sure you have done, but just in case
you've overlooked it, did you remember to
calibrate your scanner?..should be an
app that says 'calibrate' or some such ..it
will adjust tone, gamma, and intensity,
as well as likely the match between your
printer and scanner, and monitor and
scanner....
Just a thought..
