scanner error

I have silverfast ai software running on a PowerMac G4. My scanner is a Linotype Saphir Ultra II. It is connected via scsi card (adaptec 2906). When I start the scanning software, it tells me the scanner isn't connected. I've run the adaptec scsi probe and it see's the scanner. It lists the exact model. I can't get it to blink the lights of the scanner though. Is this software or scanner hardware related?
