Scanjet 5p SCSI conflict?

Comment:
My Scanjet 5p starts to scan after I press the green button and click scan. But it stops before completing the scan if I have my Teac CD-R55S in the scsi chain. It works fine if I take the CD drive out.

Make sure that both devices dont have the same SCSI ID; also the last device in the SCSI chain must be terminated.
Good Luck

I have assigned unique SCSI IDs to each device, changed their physical order in the chain, and tried internal and external terminators... all to no avail.
I believe the problem lies with the Scanjet 5p. The book says it will pass the SCSI through if it is in the middle of a chain or will auto-terminate if it is at the end of chain. All I see are two SCSI II connectors and an ID selector.
I think it is failing do to it's internal circuitry when it starts to send scanned info down the chain.
Has anyone else had this problem with this scanner?
