A quickie for the experienced:

I've got my iMac set up to use my printer and the internet
via ethernet cable. All works fine, but with only one
ethernet port, I have to switch out cables each time I
change from one to the other.

Will a router allow me to use both the internet and my
printer without having to switch cables out each time?

Any advice would be appreciated. My cables are getting
worn out.

Yes, a router will do this and also give you a hardware
firewall for protection.

You can also use a simple Ethernet Hub, less expensive.
