A friend has a concert dvd and some dvd-audio dvds that he wants to rip the music off and put into itunes. IS there an application that can easily do this?

That's not free though, that costs money and the trial version is gimped. I use mactheripper too, its just as good as anything you'll pay money for tbh. It might not do everything you want but you can always find another free or opensource (check sourceforge.net) project that does, to go along with mactheripper.

You may try this all-in-one DVD Ripper, it can help you extract audio track from DVD movie to MP3 or WMA audio file, my friends recommend it to me, it's easy to use and works pretty well for me, I think it deserves for a try. and here is a step by step guide about how to use it
