I haven't used Macs in a while but am returning as a user. I have a few questions if someone can help:

1. I have a PB1400 that I'm planning to upgrade to a G3 processor. I have OS 8.1 on it now. Can I go directly to OS 9 or do I have to install OS 8.5 first?

2. When I upgrade the PB1400 to a G3 processor, is there any hope of adding USB compatibility? Or is that a lost cause with the 1400?

2. I'm planning to buy a G5. I'd like to use my current monitor (NEC 17" MultiSync). I know that it probably won't provide as crisp a picture as one of the Apple displays, but is a traditional monitor going to work with a G5?

Thanks for your help!

My experience is that the newer the mac, the more monitors it can support (within reason)- try it out!If they dont let you try it in the store , try another store!
Upgrades...os8.5 is a separate OS, as is 9...you cant upgrade to 8.5 from 8.1, or 9 from 8.5, but you can install 9 directly, if the mac supports it in the first place(which it would with a G3 upgrade)....
Unsure about the USB capabilities,tho...
