hi, i was wondering if anyone knows any good programmes or ways to recover overwritten data? i put all my photos and artwork from my old mac onto my Lacie d2 ext. harddrive, then cleared it all from the old one. i stupidly then did a whole system backup thing of my new mac which overwrote all my files.. is it better to go for the old mac and see if i can undelete the files there, or best to try with the ext. HD?

if you only cleared files from old drive, not formated, you might retrieve them if not written over,if your saying you wrote over new drive with backup, depending on where files were on drives, some might be recovered, some not,
check for software: http://www.pure-mac.com/diag.html

We use a program called "Data Rescue II" at my repair shop. It has worked well for us.
Good luck!
