Anyone suffering video problems after updating to 10.2 on their iMac, or anyone considering the upgrade to 10.2 on their iMac, NEEDS TO READ THIS THREAD BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE.
Basically, if your firmware has never been updated, you MUST run the firmware updaters from Apple (should be on the 10.2 CD-ROM) BEFORE you install 10.2. If you don't, your iMac's video stands a pretty good chance of dying. If your iMac already has dead video, either take it to an authorised repair agent and tell them "Fix it or else," or you may be able to connect an external monitor (iMac DVs and newer) and use that temporarily while you update the firmware FROM WITHIN OS 9.
