Can anyone advise me on how to remove the / usr/local/mysql directory via the 'Terminal'?
Is there a way of doing it via a GUI or does it have to be via the 'Terminal' and if so how.

In the terminal, the "rm -R" command should do the trick. I'm not sure, but you'll probably have to login to root to be able to do this. Be very very careful with that rm command. You'll have to use a potent file recovery program to undo its effects.

Or use sudo rather than logging in as root, which is more secure.
