Comment:

I have a Powermac G3 Blue and White running 8.6 OS. It currently has a CD-ROM drive. I am looking at buying a Hitachi DVD camcorder, which records on 8cm DVD-RAM discs.

Does anyone know of an internal drive I can install in place of the CD drive that will read these DVD-RAM video discs, plus read CD-ROM discs, and burn DVD-R discs?

Also, any suggestions on applicable software to burn the DVD-R discs would be appreciated.

Thanks for the help.

Tim

I don't think there's anything on the market that will burn DVD-R format *and* read DVD-RAM.

Don't ram's come out of thier cartridge?,I looked
around and from what I've seen there's more
dvd formats than people need!,single layer single
sided, dual single sided layer with four of so..size
capaciities and except for how thier burnt, dvd-
ram,which is a preformated dvd-rw in a removable
cartridge, seems to be supported by most
drives!,the bad part is you need to take them out
their casing!.the writing limits for both dvd-rw's
aswell as the ohter dvd variations seems to be the
same........no dual layer single sided 9.4gb blank media!!

DVD-RAM is a unique format specification. It's not in any way related to DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R, or anything else.

For crying out loud. Their specs don't claim to read DVD-RAM. What part of that didn't you understand the first time I said it?

If such a thing exists, show it to me. So far you haven't. You've just said "This reads DVD-RAM" when it doesn't say that *anywhere* in the specs.

Thank you. *THAT* drive actually will read and write both DVD-R and DVD-RAM.

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be Mac compatible, so allow me to amend my original statement:

There isn't anything on the market that will burn DVD-R *and* read DVD-RAM that can be used with a Mac.
