I'm having problems connecting a Midi
Interface to a Macintosh Performa 575.
I got it from a friend, so I don't know if
there is software that is needed.
It connects using either the printer or
modem serial ports. Do I need a "driver"
like I would to connect the modem or the
printer in the same fashion?

Opcode's OMS (Open Music System) driver package (with multiple drivers and extension and control panel) may be useful to you. I'm sorry I don't remember their web address, but you should be able to find it using a search engine.
