RAM upgrade?

I just bought the new G4 (FW800) with 256 mb of PC2100 DDR ram. Apple says I *cannot* upgrade ram with PC2700 DDR (333), only PC2100 DDR (266).
Others have said I can put PC2700 ram in and it'll work perfect, but it'll run at the slower 266mhz speed.

I think Apple is on crack, and others are quite correct.
But not having tried it myself, I can't say for certain. I have no reason to think the non-Apple folks are wrong, however, and I have plenty of reason not to listen to Apple.
