aquired this quadra 950 with sad face. tested drive and is fine. Won't boot flopys. plays some musical note before saddening. Code 000000f/0000001 appears under sad face. Could this be a ram/banking problem?

Probably *NOT* a bad chip on the board. The RAM is the first suspect; do you have any spare RAM you can use to test with, or does booting with all removeable RAM succeed?

Robert,

1.the ram is plugged into 4 "Banks" A,B,C, and D useing a total of 12 slots with ram sticks.
2. What should the ram contain??? I haven't a clue.
3. What's your point?

Ja, Robert, stop talking until your brain can catch up to your mouth. Just because a Mac has RAM on the motherboard doesn't mean the RAM in the slots can't be bad, and it usually *does* mean the RAM in the slots is bad.

Update,

950 sobering up. After removing the first bank (D Bank) of ram sticks I fired up the goose. Success! Although short lived. Got up thru the boot up process and then it froze on an extension error: "Starup file interruption",
"The start up process was interrrupted by the start up file Power Pro" (pic an option to proceed). While taking a moment out to scratch my chin, then my head then my... my eyes drifted to the bench where I removed the accelerator card (Power Pro http://www.applefritter.com/macosppc/daystar/pages/dsd_products/support/faq_pp601.html )to get better access to the ram and where I forgot to replace it. Well I best replace the card since it's bad memory right? Not so fast I tell myself. Upon firing it back up with the power pro card I'm back to ground zero/punch drunk mac. Probaly not worth fixing the card would you say? Special note: for the short time the card was installed 5- 10 minutes max upon removeing it, it was very warm to the touch.

Pull the card and boot with extensions off and see if that helps matters. It sounds like the PowerPro software is corrupted.
