The Activity Monitor app (Applications/Utilities) will show what
programs and services are running.

First though, I'd suggest running a utility like Onyx (free) and
run the automation tab to clean out user/app caches, launch
databases, repair permissions, etc, will have more benefit than
killing a service using Activity Monitor which may cause your
system to not function properly.
