I have a macbook, running osx10.5. I would like to find out what programs are running in the background that is slowing my computer down and how to stop them in order to speed it up. If anyone can give me an answer i would thank you very much.

The Activity Monitor app (Applications/Utilities) will show what programs and services are running.
