Subject: Problem Installing OS 10.3 on Yikes
OS: OS 9.2.2
CPU/Ram: 576mg RAM
Model/Manufacturer: G4 PCI 400 Yikes
Comment:

Hi Folks,

I've been trying to install OS 10.3 on my
G4 PCI 400 yikes with no luck. We have
the retail version of OS 10.3. It was
previously installed on a G4 APG 450. No
problems.

I've tried starting up using the C key and
starting up changing the startup disk to
the CD. I hear the chime and then
nothing. A black screen everytime.

My firmware is updated:
ROM revision: $77D-45F6
Boot ROM Version: 1.2f2
Mac OS ROM file version: 8.7

I took out RAM and tried all the
combinations I can think of.

I read on these forums to look at
XPostFacto to install OS X on
unsupported machines. However my
computer is not listed under product
requirements.

Here are the specs for my computer:
G4 PCI 400 Yikes
Primary HD (ID 0)is a WDC 120GB
running System 9.2.2
Secondary HD (ID 1)is an IBM 30GB. I
would like to reformat to one
partition and put OS X 10.3
PCI display card - ATI rage 128 which is
shipped with this computer
Memory - 576 MG

I sure could use some help. What can I
do to get my computer to boot off the 10.3
installer dixc and install System 10.3.

Thank you, lindarose

You did not say if the OSX disc a DVD or a CD?
Or what kind of optical drive you had.

The OSX disk is a CD. My internal
CD-Rom drive is a Mas---a. It's the
original that came with the computer.
Driver version 1.4.7.

I'm sorry but I don't know what an optical
drive is. I'll google.

Thanks for your reply Pumpnethel. I'm off
to find out what an optical drive is.

Thank you, Lindarose
